Consecrate Prayer Guide — Day 4
The Meal of Mission, Continued
What is Fasting?
Fasting is abstaining from food in order to draw near to God in desperation and delight. This is an invitation — not a requirement — to fast however the Lord invites you.
Many of us will fast each day until after the prayer gathering. Some will fast one meal a day. Others will fast multiple days at a time. The call is not to fit into a structure, but to seek the Lord and listen for the Spirit on what fasting should look like for you.
We believe that God will speak to you — so seek His face.

John 4:32
We return today to the well — because Jesus is still at work there. Yesterday we fasted and prayed for the mission to become our meal. Today, we go back into the neighborhood. This time with popsicles. This time with more prayer.
Do not mistake the simplicity of the method for a lack of significance in the mission. Jesus was simply sitting by a well. He wasn't running a program. He wasn't behind a podium. He was present, available, and attentive — and the Holy Spirit used it to change a woman's life, and through her, a whole city.
Today's fast is a renewed act of surrender. We are saying again with our bodies: we do not live by food alone. We are sustained by the mission of God. We are nourished by what the Father is doing in the world. And we want to be part of it.
Pray before you go out. Pray while you walk. Pray when you stop to hand someone a popsicle and look them in the eye. Ask the Holy Spirit to move — to open doors of conversation, to soften hearts, to make ordinary moments extraordinary.
The same Spirit who moved at the well is moving today. Position yourself to be used.

A Prayer Before Going Out:
Spirit of God,
Go before us. Prepare the hearts of our neighbors.
Give us eyes to see what You are doing
and courage to step into it.
Make our presence a blessing.
Make our conversations a bridge.
Let the simple gifts we carry point to the greatest gift —
the good news of Jesus.
May the mission be our meal. Again. Amen.
